Party boats targeting Black Sea Bass typically anchor or drift over rock piles, wrecks, and artificial reefs in depths of 30 to 120 feet. Squid strips, clams, and cut fish are the go-to baits, dropped right to the bottom where sea bass hold tight to structure. When you find them, the action can be nonstop.
Black Sea Bass are scrappy fighters for their size, pulling hard toward structure and making short, powerful runs. Most fish caught on party boats run 1 to 3 pounds, with larger fish exceeding 5 pounds on deeper wrecks. Males develop a distinctive blue hump on their head during spawning season.
