Albacore Tuna Fishing Charters

Albacore Tuna is a premier target on West Coast party boats, with boats running from California to Washington when the albacore arrive in summer and fall. These open-ocean speedsters offer exciting fights and some of the best sashimi-grade fish you can catch.

Party boats travel 30 to 100 miles offshore to find warm water currents where albacore school up. Trolling jigs and feathers locate the schools, then anglers switch to live bait or iron jigs to maximize the action. When you find a school, the fishing can be wide-open with fish biting on every cast.

Albacore are fast, powerful fighters that make long runs and pull hard throughout the fight. Their torpedo-shaped body is built for speed, and they use every bit of it when hooked. Fish commonly run 15 to 30 pounds, with larger fish exceeding 40 pounds. A hot albacore bite is one of the most exciting experiences in party boat fishing.

The eating quality is outstanding. Fresh albacore has light pink flesh that is tender, mild, and perfect for sashimi, searing, or canning. Many West Coast anglers put up their own canned albacore, which tastes nothing like store-bought tuna.
