Little Tunny Fishing Charters

Little Tunny, also known as false albacore or bonita, is one of the fastest and most aggressive fish caught on party boats along the Atlantic coast. These tuna relatives travel in large, feeding schools and deliver explosive action.

Party boats encounter Little Tunny near shore and offshore, often while targeting other species. They feed frenziedly on schools of baitfish near the surface, creating visible blitzes that draw birds and anglers alike. Small jigs, spoons, and live bait cast into the feeding frenzy produce instant hookups.

Little Tunny are incredibly fast and powerful for their size. They make blistering runs and pull with stamina that belies their compact frame. Most fish run 5 to 15 pounds, with some exceeding 20 pounds. On light tackle, they provide a fight that rivals fish twice their size.

Little Tunny divides opinion at the table. The dark, blood-rich flesh is stronger-flavored than other tunas and must be bled and iced immediately for best results. Prepared as sashimi when very fresh, or smoked, it can be quite good. Many anglers release Little Tunny or use them as cut bait for larger gamefish.
