Yellowtail Snapper Fishing Charters

Yellowtail Snapper is a colorful, fast-moving reef fish that lights up party boat trips in South Florida and the Keys. These beautifully marked fish with their signature yellow stripe and forked tail are cooperative biters and outstanding to eat.

Party boats anchor over coral reefs, patch reefs, and wrecks in depths of 30 to 100 feet. Yellowtails are caught by drifting small pieces of shrimp, squid, or cut bait back in the chum slick on light fluorocarbon leaders. They feed in the water column rather than on the bottom, so getting the right drift distance from the boat is key.

Yellowtail Snapper are scrappy fighters that use their speed to make quick runs. They are line-shy and picky, requiring light tackle and finesse, which makes the fight more sporting. Most fish run 1 to 4 pounds, with larger fish reaching 6 to 8 pounds.
