Coho Salmon Fishing Charters

Coho Salmon, also called silver salmon, is a popular target on Pacific Coast party boats from California to Alaska. Known for their acrobatic fights and silver-bright beauty, Coho provide exciting action during their seasonal runs.

Party boats target Coho by trolling herring, hoochies, and spinners at varying depths, typically from the surface to 60 feet. When Coho are feeding actively, they can also be caught on cast jigs and flies. The fishing is often productive near river mouths, along current rips, and over structure where baitfish concentrate.

Coho are arguably the most acrobatic of the Pacific salmon. They make fast runs punctuated by spectacular leaps, tail-walking across the surface and putting on a show that electrifies the whole boat. Fish commonly run 6 to 12 pounds, with larger fish exceeding 15 pounds.

At the table, Coho is excellent. The orange-red flesh is lighter and more delicate than Chinook but still rich and flavorful. Coho is outstanding grilled, baked, smoked, or prepared as lox. Many anglers consider Coho the best all-around salmon for cooking due to its balanced fat content.
