Mahi-Mahi Fishing in North Carolina

The unique geography of Cape Hatteras, where the continental shelf juts eastward toward the Stream, gives North Carolina boats a shorter run to blue water than most other mid-Atlantic states.

When the Gulf Stream pushes close during summer, the fishing can be exceptional. Boats out of Hatteras, Oregon Inlet, and Morehead City run full-day offshore trips that put anglers over productive weed lines, floating debris, and current rips. The warm Stream water carries sargassum weed and all the baitfish and small creatures that mahi feed on, creating natural fish-holding structure in open water.
