Spotted Seatrout Fishing Charters

Spotted Seatrout, commonly called speckled trout, is one of the most popular inshore gamefish along the Gulf and South Atlantic coasts. Party boats targeting nearshore waters regularly encounter these beautiful spotted fish, especially during cooler months when they school up.

Party boats and large bay boats find Seatrout over grass flats, oyster bars, and channels in depths of 3 to 20 feet. Live shrimp under a popping cork is the classic technique, though soft plastic jigs and live baitfish also produce well. Seatrout have keen eyesight and a delicate bite that requires attention.

The fight is exciting on light tackle, with Seatrout making quick runs and occasional jumps. Their soft mouths require a careful touch to avoid pulling the hook. Fish commonly run 1 to 3 pounds, with trophy "gator trout" exceeding 5 pounds.

Spotted Seatrout is a highly regarded food fish with white, mild, tender flesh. The fillets are delicate and best prepared simply with butter, lemon, and herbs. Pan-fried speckled trout is a signature dish across the Gulf Coast. Handle the fillets gently as the flesh is softer than most fish.
