Capt. Bubba Thorsen's Chulamar runs 6 and 8 hour walk-on bottom fishing trips from Pensacola Beach, FL, mostly in federal waters 18 to 20 miles out for snapper and grouper.
The Chulamar is Capt. Bubba Thorsen's walk-on boat, docked at 701 Pensacola Beach Blvd. She was custom built in 1995 in Wetumpka, Alabama, and the captain calls her the biggest charter boat in Pensacola. His second boat, the 26 foot Katelyn, runs private charters for small groups.
Walk-on trips run daily as 6 hour or 8 hour trips, dock to dock, at $175 and $185 a person plus tax. The boat usually fishes federal waters 18 to 20 miles offshore, in 100 to 180 feet of water, with two hook rigs and 16 ounces of lead. Bottom fishing is for snapper and grouper. The captain says the 8 hour trip is the better buy since you fish the same spots with more time on the bottom. From Memorial Day to Labor Day the Chulamar does only walk-on trips.
